DragonBall Z Budokai 3
System: PlayStation 2 Release Date: 11/16/04
by Enygma

DragonBall Z Budokai 3 boasts your selection of 36 playable characters, over 500 "Capsules" to customize those characters, 7 Game Modes, 12 Stages to duke it out on, and much, much more! Some of the characters include Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, Trunks, Hercule, Bardock, Majin Buu, Broly, Cooler, Omega Shenron and many more!

When I first started playing DragonBall Z Budokai 3, I noticed a lot of changes I liked, but probably the first change I noticed is probably still my favorite. The fighting itself was a lot faster, and more upbeat, and I didn't feel the same somewhat sluggish controls of the previous game, DragonBall Z Budokai 2. This game has also brought a series of new elements to the battles, like better dodging, being able to teleport behind an attacking opponent, and the ability of going into Hyper Mode, all of which have made the battles more realistic, for both the spectator and the player!

Another thing I noticed very quickly was the drastic improvements on the graphics. Ok, if you look at some still shots, you might not think it is that much differant from DragonBall Z Budokai 2, but what I'm most impressed with is difficult to capture in a still shot. Simple things like your Fighter's Aura, some dust unsettling from the ground, and the brightness of your energy attacks have all been drastically improved! I must say, the first time I had Goku use the Kaio Ken and power up, I found the fantastic aura simply breathe-taking! Even when your character isn't transformed, you'll often see a series of dust circling around them, giving an effect that in my opinion stands very true to the Anime. And with the addition of added a cutscene from space at the end of some Ultimate Moves, where you can actually see the amount of damage your doing, you feel more like you're actually in the Anime than in any other game I've ever played!

Dragon Universe, DragonBall Z Budokai 3's very own Story mode, will keep players working through the challenging battles for countless hours! You get to choose to play as many of your favorite DragonBall Z characters, fly around through the actual Map of the Planet, and after every battle, gain experiance that can be used to increase the powers of your character, allowing you to really customize your Character! Aside from simply following the normal Storyline, you'll also have plenty of reason to go off the beaten path and explore, because by doing so you'll find Capsules, Zenie, and maybe even unlock new Characters! And being able to play as many characters allows you to see the Story through the eyes of more than just 1 character, so to really get a grasp on everything, you'll need to experiment, and have fun playing through the wonderful story of DragonBall Z!

Another part of this game that can really keep people interested long after completing it is Dragon Arena, which is unlocked after beating Dragon Universe as each character. Here, you can play using the Characters you leveled up during Dragon Universe, and even ones you couldn't play as there, and continue to level them up! But, you'll have to face very high level opponent's in order to gain enough experiance to keep up, so you'll have to prove that level isnt everything! Think you've mastered a character that nobody could beat? By using a special Code which can be viewed every time your character levels up, you can allow your friends to battle against your highly-skilled fighter, whether they live down the street or countries away! Simply give your friend the code, and they can enter it in, and fight a real challenge!
